Unable to make payments using my debit card on PayPal & unable to check my balance at an ATM just now?

Is my bank account blocked? Or stolen?

I have noticed that I can't pay for any goods online at all since 18th Sept 2008 using my HSBC Debit Card. So just now I decided to check my balance at a cash machine because I was still unable to pay for an item which I have purchases on eBay using PayPal, and I was starting to worry if someone got hold of my card information.

But it would not let check my balance at all, it came up with a message saying "unable to provide the service".

I tired phoning HSBC card enquiry, but all I got was a stupid women who I cannot understand, I assume the call centre people are all non-UKers and are in India, who are very hard to understand.

I gave all my infomation however she said I gave some information wrong, which I literally gave my card information from reading my Debit Card. Only thing I might have said wrong was maybe the question of "Recent transactions" I have made. I made a few payments and I cannot which one was the most recent (in order), but I did mention all of the most recent transactions I have made, including the amount and to whom I paid (PayPal).

Im planning to go down to my branch, on Monday.

Thanks.|||I had trouble with Pay pal the other day, so I cancelled my account, ordered a new card from the bank and opened a new Pay pal account. All OK now.|||Definitely go down to the branch. When this happened to me, they said that my card was reported stolen which it wasn't it was just an interal error.|||i was waiting for you to tell us all what you were doing on tuesday lol.

your question is?|||The most common reason for being unable to access your account is when the whole system has crashed. I had a similar problem a couple of months ago and was frantic with worry in case my card was being used by somebody else. The most frustrating thing about it all was, like you, I had absolutely no idea what the foreign wifie on the help line was saying. Everything was sorted out when I visited my local branch, but it was a worrying couple of days!! If your identity had been stolen, most banks will contact you if your card is being "overused", just to check that any unusually high transactions are being made by yourself.
