My UK HSBC debit card isn't working abroad (Australia) - why?

I was in Japan and Thailand recently and I was using my HSBC card to withdraw cash and it worked fine - but I've just arrived in Australia and at all of the ATM's it just says either "Unauthorised Usage" or "Invalid Amount" - I even tried it an actual HSBC ATM, but no joy. I can do balance enquiries so there is no problem with my pin code or anything, and I'm not exceeding my daily limit cos I even tried withdrawing just 10 Aussie dollars but it didn't work. The banks are closed til Monday so I can't get any info from them, I thought maybe someone on here could enlighten me?!|||usually banks' cust service depts are open during weekends.

but if it says unauthorized usage it's either atm used does not match the type of card your using or fraud dept of your bank is blocking the card because you are outside the country. you really have to call them to reactivate the card coz they need to verify whether transactions done on the card are authorized or not.
